About Me

I'm just an ardent fan of East Asian TV dramas. I grew up watching Cantonese wuxia/ancient series produced by TVB and eventually expanded into other Asian dramas when I finally became proficient enough to understand Mandarin Chinese. I love to rant about my latest drama obsessions and have spontaneous spurts of translating-things-I-really-like-at-the-moment.  ◕‿◕

My taste in drama/movies is quite broad and random depending on the region of production. I'm pretty much open to anything as long as it manages to captivate my attention/interests. Heck, I even dawdled in a Turkish soap opera about an Ottoman sultan and a Russian melodrama set in the reign of Tzar Nicholas I because of the beautiful costumes/exotic landscape. So, if you have any great recommendations, please do not hesitate to tell me. Currently, I'm suffering from drama drought because nothing seems to really interest me anymore.

If anyone interested in writing a drama review for a series you really like or do recaps for a particular drama, please feel free to leave me a message below or email me at JoleColeStation@gmail.com.

Just want to specially thank two wonderful individuals from spcnet.net forum: mango_cake and yanange.  Mango_cake has generously helped me update my FengMi fanshipping blog when I've been too lazy to do so in the past few months. As for yanange, she graciously provided translations to Sealed with a Kiss novel.

  1. Hi, You've got a very nice site. Really like how well you've done the Chinese/English translation. Appreciate the effort you've put in as being able to read both Chinese and English, know how much thought you've put in to do this. Thanks also for putting up links for the OSTs download. Cut down a lot of work for those of us looking for them. Keep up the great job you've done on your site! :)

  2. Hi. Being a fan of Hawick Lau, this site is definitely a must for me. Thanks for the info, links and pics. really appreciate it. If you enjoy Hawick's acting in Sealed with a Kiss, you must not miss one of his older series "Niang Qi". Thought he really delivered the charcter well from age 18 to age 80. His talent would be wasted if he remained in TVB...

  3. jolecole, first of all I wanted to say I respect your passion and can feel it at times too but reality of life always catch up to me when I'm sitting in front of the computer for ten hours hehe. Anyway I love your posts and can't wait for your posts on qian shan mu xue miniserie's recap, I watched it raw, it's bothersome because I miss most of the characters in the drama, like the butler and lao ma. I didn't understand it, I understood a few words but that's not gonna get me anywhere, personally this ending is not much better than the drama's but ... *sigh* what can i do about it. So just wanna let you know I really like reading your analysis, it's sounds very accurate and funny to read :)

  5. Thank you, I love your blog especially on SWAK! Do you know of any drama/novel, with similar story description as SWAK? I know "叶落无心" novels and Korean drama "Innocent Man". Like love revenge type of story...:) Was wondering if you have other similar recommendation?

    1. Have u tried the Korean period drama The Princess Man? It's also about revenge. As for Chinese novels, you can try another novel written by same novelist as SWAK called 爱情的开关。

  6. Hi Jolecole,

Love your site. I love blogs on dramas (chinese, korean, etc). Your insight and passion is very fun and engaging. It's thanks to you that I gave SWAK a chance and find it surprisingly good.

Just wondering, have you heard of or seen 错点鸳鸯&戏点鸳鸯? If you ever find time to give it a chance, I would love to read about your thoughts on it. :)

  7. Hi Jolecole, I wonder if you can recall any dramas that's about this poor guy that married a very rich & powerful woman because he has very good health & family background (no cancer, no aids etc) The woman's family business involve mining (if I didn't remember wrongly) but unfortunately, this wife of his is unable to conceive a child (and she wants a child as her relative is aiming her family's asset) so she arrange for a surrogate mother. & everytime when they do that thing the guy will have to be blindfolded and be taken to this room and consummate in the dark. The surrogate mother know who's the guy but he doesn't know her after she got pregnant and give birth, I don't know the rest of the story cause I didn't get to watch it.

Anyway I really can't remember any actor/actress/title. I really hope this rough synopsis manage to ring a bell on you cause I have been looking for it for a long time to no avail, if I'm not wrong it is releases around 2000 to 2007 and it is a period drama, around 1950s?

Hope to hear from you soon!︿︿

    1. Hmm...I don't recall any series I watched with such a plot. Do you know what country of origin the drama is from? It sounds like a Thai Lakorn or maybe even Singaporean. I can try to look it up for you if you remember.

    2. I believe it is a mainland-Hong Kong or Taiwan collaboration, it was air in Singapore channel 8 before.

    3. I think I know what drama you're talking about now. I actually saw very small bits and pieces of it. It's Hong Kong ATV series called 爱在有情天 or Love in a Miracle starring Steven Ma and Amy Chan.

  18. JoleCole, you should know that Chinese costumes for Chinese Asian men and women and Asian Chinese landscapes are 600 times more beautiful than Russian and Turkish costumes. Russian costumes are okay but many Russian dresses are fat and ugly and not anything great compared to very beautiful ancient Chinese dramas. That is not appropriate when you are being too generous and advertising Russian and Turkish costumes, not good on your website which is supposed to be about amazing and fantastic Chinese dramas. JoleCole, you should note that you are giving credit to the wrong country, Russian and Turkey in your website.

Also, many Chinese Asian actresses are 400 times more beautiful that evil and bad Caucasian actresses. Those Caucasian actresses from Russia for example, look ugly that use pornographic pictures, that use digital enhancement in fake pictures and videos to try to copy more lovely and slender Chinese Asian girls.

  19. Hey Jole, have you heard anything on an upcoming drama 芈月传? It's supposed to have the cast from 甄嬛传

  20. My wife and I adore the Serial Productions we have discovered watching the ICN network here in NYC. Neither of us understand the languages - Mandarin or Cantonese - however great stories, great acting, great costumes & scenery sold us. I might be the only Caucasian male in this town that has seen and adored the following:
My New Fair Princess - 2X
Startling Step by Step - 3X - bought the DVD set
    King of Legend - 3X
    Snow Leopard
    Black Fox

I have written reviews of these as I was an entertainment editor for several national publications and I am curious to find out if anyone out there has the space or could advise me where I could post them?
Jole, as we say in the biz, you and this site are very, very cool!
